Jason E. Spain

Jason E. Spain grew up in Henderson, North Carolina and graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in Classical Studies in 2010. While at N.C. State, he was a member of the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honors Society. He also participated in and graduated from the University Honors Program.

Mr. Spain next attended the DePaul University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 2013. During law school, he was elected Treasurer of the Intellectual Property Law Society and completed internships with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and with the in-house counsel department of Chromatin, Inc. In addition to his Juris Doctor Degree, Mr. Spain spent a year studying abroad and received a Master’s degree in International and European Business Law from the Pontifical University of Comillas located in Madrid, Spain.

Mr. Spain joined Bagwell Holt Smith P.A. as an estate planning attorney in 2018, having practiced as an estates and business law attorney in the Raleigh/Cary area since passing the North Carolina bar in 2013. He has chosen to focus on Estate Planning and Probate law in order to help clients plan for their family’s future and to assist clients in administering the estate of a loved one. Mr. Spain believes that the most valuable time he can spend with a client is answering questions and providing insight and advice that will allow clients to maintain their estate plans even after their consultation with an attorney has ended. Mr. Spain especially enjoys helping small business owners set up business succession plans that will allow their companies to be passed on to the next generation and help provide financial security for their families in the event of retirement, death, or disability.

Away from the office, Mr. Spain and his wife spend time with their two spaniels, Toby and James. He enjoys running and biking along the many triangle area greenway trails, playing tennis, and reading.
